Polina Sokolova, BA Student

My name is Polina Sokolova and I am originally from Russia. I have been living in Vienna for over 6 years and finished secondary school here. Currently I am a bachelor student at the University of Vienna studying Biology with a specialisation in Microbiology and Genetics.

Since February 2024, I have been working at the Naturhistorisches Museum of Vienna. I first joined as a student volunteer with the World Register of Marine Species, where I helped digitize expedition archives tracking sea urchins around the world, which deepened my interest in zoology. At the beginning of this year, I started working as a project assistant on the Kulturerbe Digital project. There, I support administrative tasks and help digitize museum specimens and objects.

In July 2025, I joined the Tick Research Group to begin my bachelor internship, which marks my first professional experience in a molecular biology lab. While I have a strong interest in zoology, my primary focus is on studying the prevalence of pathogens and their impact on public health. I’m especially interested in research related to vector-borne diseases and aim to contribute to public health through work in pathogen surveillance and disease prevention.
